Playgrounds/Parks in Barcelona (Deborah)

Just thought I'd show some pictures of a few playgrounds we've found here. They're actually fairly abundant. One is practically right outside our apartment, about 10 yards. Then there's a slightly larger one about 1 block away, which is also more crowded in the afternoons. Then as you walk around the city (which we do so often), you pass them usually every 4-5 blocks or so (depending on the area of the city--we live close to 2, yay). The one thing that's different here is the ground covering on all the playgrounds we've seen. Sand. No mulcho? Perhaps it's just too expensive to cover all the playgrounds in the city. But then, come on, everything else in Barcelona is expensive, why not go for it all? But no, they use sand.  Of course, the children don't mind, so sand it is. Actually, they like to build forts, roads, and stuff, so that's fun too. Also, every playground is fenced in with a short brown wooden fence, so they're kind of cute too.

One that we really like is actually a park: Parc del Clot, which is about a 10-minute walk away. It has 3 small playgrounds, each a little different. Then it has this really large concrete open space (about half the size of a football field) that has an area with basketball goals, an area with metal soccer bars for goals, and some walls to hit tennis or racquetballs against, plus it also has 2 ping pong tables in a shaded area. Plenty of raised steps to sit on there, and benches scattered throughout the playground areas.
